Mexican Mojito

Adapted from | Amor Y Tacos | Stewart, Tabori & Chang, 2010

The mojito is so sexy and light that it would be a shame not to adapt the Cuban original to the Mexican model. The typical mojito is made with white rum, but a smooth white tequila works perfectly with the wisp of mint and sweetness. Tequila is a more versatile mixer than one might think, especially in drinks that already lean to the tart and citrusy. A very quick drink to make—and drink.–Deborah Schneider

LC Salud! Note

When you wish to offer a toast but words escape you—or when they escape you in slurred fashion—all you need to remember is “Salud!” (“To your health!”). Well, okay, you should also remember to use an agave blanco tequila when you make this mojito. One typically hears of a silver (plato) or maybe a gold (oro) tequila, while the less common white tequila is oft referred to as the purest expression of the agave plant’s essence. That means there may be quite some, er, character to be experienced. But not to worry. The sugar and mint and soda meld things quite seamlessly. C’mon, you’re up for a little adventure, yes?

Temperatures were in the 100s in Louisiana today, making it a perfect day to try a new drink recipe. This makes one really refreshing drink. I didn’t get the agave tequila, and instead used my good tequila and added some agave to it. I also used Sprite, and not soda. This was really close to what I’ve had at our Cuban restaurant. I’d be happy to serve this all summer to my friends.

I’ve been drinking this since her cookbook came out. It’s one of the best drinks i’ve ever had. I’m so over Margaritas

This cocktail tends to have that effect on people, j pat! Glad you like…!

Bubbly Friday: Skinny Blackberry Cucumber Mojito

Skinny Blackberry Cucumber Mojito

  • 4 cl Weißer Rum
  • 250 ml Vöslauer Balance Wacholderbeere & Limette
  • 3 Schwarzbeeren
  • 3 Gurkenscheiben
  • 2 Limettenviertel

Cheers!

EN: Before summer is over we would like to devote today’s Bubbly Friday to one of summer’s most popular cocktails: The Mojito. But we’re not talking about the classic Mojito with lots of sugar, but a slightly modified version that tastes just as delicious and refreshing, but which comes with a lot less calories. We altered one of our favorite cocktail recipes a little bit and came up with the Skinny Blackberry Cucumber Mojito:

It’s super easy to make – simply mix together 4 cl of white rum with 250 ml Vöslauer Balance juniper berry & lime, add 3 black berries and a few slices of cucumber and lime. That’s it! Now we hope you’re ready to enjoy the weekend and get to try this little refreshing cocktail.

Mojito

Eben Freeman, bartender of Tailor Restaurant in New York City, developed this adaptation of a classic Cuban cocktail. As a sweetener, Freeman trades the traditional sugar syrup for superfine sugar, which gives the drink a slightly grainy texture.

Excellent. I boiled the shrimp shells and drained for the 2 cups of water. I also will add a tsp of salt. I served over Fettuccini and warm crusty french bread. Yum!

  • Nice and simple, great for summer, but way too sweet. Next time: reduce the sugar by 25%, increase the rum, adjust club soda to taste.

  • Use FRESH lime juice, and HEAPING teaspoons of sugar to cut the acidity, or else it will be too acidic. Also, use a good quality light rum.

  • Great Drink, if you don't have superfine sugar just put regular sugar in the food processor and pulse for a minute.

  • This mojito recipe is fantastic! I have made this on multiple occasions for different crowds, and all have asked me for the recipe, that's not the say the recipe couldn't be improved. I have used unrefined cane sugar, although it takes longer to dissolve and the drink appears more amber-colored, and I've also used regular, granulated sugar when I couldn't get my hands on the superfine. I've also varied the amount of rum used. My conclusion: The drink is a bit sweet as is, so I prefer not to use "heaping" teaspoons, also the 1/4 cup rum is a good starting point to add more to taste if one wishes to do so.

  • This mojito recipe was good--but not the stellar recipe I was looking for. As other reviewers said, it was a bit too sweet. And this sweetness was the case even though I used regular granulated sugar and not all of it dissolved. I'll still have to search for the perfect mojito recipe.

  • Made this with coconut rum and extra Club Soda. Delish!

  • I am a huge fan of mojitos but have never made them at home. I tried this recipe last night but substituted agave nectar for the sugar and doubled the amount of club soda because after tasting it with only 1 oz. decided i like a little more pop and fizz in mine. Definitely a keeper that I will be making again and again.

  • Try a heavy splash of POM juice. Trust me. it's divine!

  • Instead of club soda, I used lime Perrier. nice touch!

  • I can never remember the correct proportions (a result of the mojitos? hee hee!), so this is my go-to recipe. I've started - and the Mr & I prefer - agave nectar to sugar or simple syrup, tho. Slightly less, or to taste. Adds a subtle lil somethin somethin and it mixes instantly into the lime juice & booze.

  • Nice! I had only regular granulated sugar, which didn't dissolve entirely, but it's plenty sweet (which tells me you could get away using less overall). I also added more club soda (probably another ounce). My first homemade cocktail (as part of a new year's resolution to drink more!). very pleased!

  • So good. I multiplied the recipe, by a lot :), they came out great. I will definitely make these again..hmm, maybe tonight.

  • fabulous recipe. be sure to stir the sugar until it is dissolved! This makes a world of difference. We found that we liked about 2 oz. of club soda per glass, instead of just 1. more bubbles!

  • Great mojito recipe! Instead of club soda I used proseco. amazing. Definitely recommend.

  • Nice, basic recipe- still prefer simple syrup over sugar, though.

  • I intend to live on these for the rest of the summer. LMAO Scagsville - and no one is going to ruin my fun either.

  • A truly excellent recipe. This was my first try at a Mojito and it was flawless. I served them in deep bowled, crystal water goblets. Looked like an underwater seascape! Lovely.

  • Such a fabulous recipe. I've shared it with family and friends..so easy and delicious.

  • Out of all the Mojito recipes out there, this is the top!

  • You get plenty of mint flavor by just tearing the mint leaves in half rather than crushing them as other recipes advise. You just get the flavor without drinking the leaves.

  • Great basic mojito recipe. This will be my new go-to recipe for mojitos (I've tried a few!). I like that I can control the sweetness by using club soda and sugar (as opposed to some recipes that use ginger ale or lemon-lime soda).

    KW 25 – Mojito

    Geschmack:

    2 cl Limettensaft

Vom Geschmack her sehr ähnlich.

Call me locally patriotic, but the view over the harbor is simply exciting.

The staff in the solar bar was super friendly and the mojito was good and the demand, how exactly do I want to have my White Russian because, can always close it, that because someone has idea of cocktails and white, that there are just a few possibilities.

For me a White Russian Classic.

    Church Of Drags

There I was so late on Sunday morning at the Palace Bar to a rich American breakfast with a mojito to take me and a little write up my experiences in Miami.

The Bat Palace has a great wireless internet and also because otherwise you can sit, relax and let yourself go.

    Church Of Drags

But no matter, nevertheless we had to overcome three or three and a half hours between arrival and appearance, we had with mojito , Nachos, Talks on heels and a nice talk with John Bates and Little Miss Risk no boredom… so ist recht.

Oh, and we got the official permission, to film.

It also saw a policeman, now wanted to know the, what he intended to do with me.

    What are the advantages?

The PONS Dictionary delivers the reliability of a dictionary which has been editorially reviewed and expanded over the course of decades. In addition, the Dictionary is now supplemented with millions of real-life translation examples from external sources. So, now you can see how a concept is translated in specific contexts. You can find the answers to questions like “Can you really say … in German?” And so, you will produce more stylistically sophisticated translations.

Where do the “Examples from the Internet” come from?

The “Examples from the Internet” do, in fact, come from the Internet. We are able to identify trustworthy translations with the aid of automated processes. The main sources we used are professionally translated company, and academic, websites. In addition, we have included websites of international organizations such as the European Union. Because of the overwhelming data volume, it has not been possible to carry out a manual editorial check on all of these documents. So, we logically cannot guarantee the quality of each and every translation. This is why they are marked “not verified by PONS editors”.

    What are our future plans?

We are working on continually optimizing the quality of our usage examples by improving their relevance as well as the translations. In addition, we have begun to apply this technology to further languages in order to build up usage-example databases for other language pairs. We also aim to integrate these usage examples into our mobile applications (mobile website, apps) as quickly as possible.

    Zwetschgen Mojito

    5 cl Geist's Zwetschgenwasser

    3 cl Zitronensaft

    2 Bsp. Zwetschgenmus bzw. Zwetschgenmarmelade

    Topp off mit Sodawasser

    2 Dashes Zwetschgenbitters (optional)
