Deutsche Edgar-Wallace-Filme sind schwarz-weiß. Falsch! Der Hund von Blackwood Castle beispielsweise erstrahlt in hellsten Eastmancolor-Farben. Farben, die nur selten Zwischentöne kennen und daher, im Vergleich zu heutigen Filmfarben, teilweise recht saftig, aber auch ein wenig monoton wirken. Der Hund von Blackwood Castle erzählt die Geschichte der jungen Jane (Karin Baal). Diese tritt auf Blackwood Castle das Erbe ihres verstorbenen Vaters an, den sie zehn Jahre nicht gesehen hatte. Nun, da er, der von allen nur der Kapitän genannt wurde, tot ist, muss sie feststellen, dass er ihr stets

Nach dem Tod von Kapitän Wilson erbt seine Tochter Jane sein Anwesen Blackwood Castle. Ihr Anwalt rät ihr zum Verkauf doch Jane besteht darauf das Schloss zu behalten. Urplötzlich tauchen mehrere zwielichtige Gestalten auf die allesamt Interesse an Blackwood Castle zeigen. Doch einer nach dem anderen wird nachts von einem streunenden Hund ins Moor gejagt und stirbt. Verzweifelt wendet sich Jane an Sotland Yard. Dessen Chef Sir John versucht gemeinsam mit seiner Sekretärin Mabel Finley herauszufinden was Blackwood Castle so wertvoll und interessant macht das jemand bereit ist dafür über Leichen zu gehen.

DER HUND VON BLACKWOOD CASTLE reviewed

"The Hound of Blackwood Castle"

aka THE MONSTER OF BLACKWOOD CASTLE (export title)

1967, Kinowelt and TOBIS/UFA Home Entertainment (Region 2), 89 minutes

After the scenically brilliant DER MÖNCH MIT DER PEITSCHE (US: THE COLLEGE GIRL MURDERS, 1967), Rialto Film's long-running Edgar Wallace series entered into what might be called its "Roger Moore phase." The films that followed were not exactly bad, but hereafter, the use of color began to noticeably cheapen what it had so brilliantly illuminated in earlier productions, the scripts began to poke self-conscious fun at the series overall, and the performances became more generally tongue-in-cheek. Also, more than ever, Edgar Wallace was left at the door. One searches in vain for a clue as to which Wallace novel provided the source for DER HUND VON BLACKWOOD CASTLE, whose title seems cobbled together from Arthur Conan Doyle and Algernon Blackwood (not to mention Bryan Edgar Wallace's THE STRANGLER OF BLACKMOOR CASTLE), but it does offer a cellar full of snakes, so 1926's THE YELLOW SNAKE (the source of 1963's CCC-produced DER FLUCH DER GELBEN SCHLANGE, or THE CURSE OF THE YELLOW SNAKE) may be a reasonable bet.

DER HUND VON BLACKWOOD CASTLE was originally released on DVD by Kinowelt with some welcome extras (outtakes, photo gallery, interviews with Uta Levka and Ilsa Pagé) but, alas, no provisions for the English-speaking viewer. This version remains the official stand-alone release in Germany, but a new 1.66:1 anamorphic transfer of the film with optional English 2.0 audio and subtitling is available as part of TOBIS/UFA Home Entertainment's four-disc Region 2 box set EDGAR WALLACE EDITION 7 (1967-68), which also includes DER MÖNCH MIT DER PEITSCHE (an infinitely superior transfer of the film released here by Dark Sky Films as THE COLLEGE GIRL MURDERS), IM BANNE DES UNHEIMLICHEN (aka THE HAND OF POWER) and DER GORILLA VON SOHO (aka THE GORILLA GANG or THE APE CREATURE). Of the four films in this set, only IM BANNE DES UNHEIMLICHEN is not English-friendly -- a needless omission, considering that Sam Sherman's Independent-International owns an English-language negative of THE HAND OF POWER, which was released to TV as THE ZOMBIE WALKS.

Reader Tom Schumaker of Parkton MD writes "I know of at least two playdates for DER HUND VON BLACKWOOD CASTLE in US theaters. I saw an English-dubbed print of THE HORROR OF BLACKWOOD CASTLE (not “MONSTER” as referenced in your Blog review) at the Glen Drive-in in Richmond, VA, back in the late 1970’s. It was co-billed with the Peter Cushing/John Carradine potboiler SHOCK WAVES. It was also playing at a local urban Grind-house (the palatial Lowe’s) at the same time. As I recall, the print was marred with green scratches & a few jumps, but otherwise seemed OK. I still have an ad mat from the Lowe’s engagement , which I clipped from the local newspaper ('shows at 2:15, 5:15 & 8:15'). When THE STRANGLER OF BLACKMOOR CASTLE came out on DVD, I had to do some research to convince myself that these were, in fact, two different films."

Put on the computer what the public asks for, not everything about the US.

I asked for a total medal count. I have been looking for 20 minutes and still cannot find it.

I also asked for a specific medal count for a specific country and got a history of when they first started to compete in the Olympics. I asked for a medal count for 2018, as of today,

not a history of that country.

Der Hund von Blackwood Castle (1968)

Nach dem Tod von Kapitän Wilson erbt seine Tochter Jane sein Anwesen Blackwood Castle. Ihr Anwalt rät ihr zum Verkauf doch Jane besteht darauf das Schloss zu behalten. Urplötzlich tauchen mehrere zwielichtige Gestalten auf die allesamt Interesse an Blackwood Castle zeigen. Doch einer nach dem anderen wird nachts von einem streunenden Hund ins Moor gejagt und stirbt. Verzweifelt wendet sich Jane an Sotland Yard. Dessen Chef Sir John versucht gemeinsam mit seiner Sekretärin Mabel Finley herauszufinden was Blackwood Castle so wertvoll und interessant macht das jemand bereit ist dafür über Leichen zu gehen.

Doch in (fiktiven) Filmen oder Büchern ist das für mich was anderes, da können die mir durchaus Spaß bereiten- so gehts wohl vielen.

Flott, humorig und mit viieelen Knarrendetails. Macht Laune!

Der Vampiro ist garnicht übel!

Hätte ich mir wegen der Mexiko-Produktion echt schlechter vorgestellt.

Tatsächlich ist der sogar ziemlich gut! Darstellerisch gibts nix auszusetzen. Atmosphäre, Settings und Kullisen sind auch Top!

Und angeblich tritt Dracula in diesem Film das erste mal mit den typischen Vampir-Eckzähnen auf.

Praktisch ein Bindeglied zwischen dem alten Lugosi und den Hammer-Studio Dracula's.

Sieht auch "entfernt" Christopher Lee ähnlich!

Also. ein wichtiger, wenn auch ziemlich unbekannter Beitrag zum Vampir-Genre!

Wir hatten hier früher niederländisches TV- da liefen durchaus interessante Filme, deren Sender waren weniger pingelig als die deutschen TV- Anstalten.

Einer meiner Lieblings Gruselfilme aus den 60ern! Eine dichte Atmosphäre und vor allem eine ernstgemeinte Story, ohne unfreiwillige Komik! Und das ist bei vielen 60s Beiträgen ja nicht selbstverständlich! ^^ Toller Film!

Daumen hoch! Erinnert mich von der Atmosphäre her immer etwas an Jaques Tourneurs "Night of the Demon".

Wirklich grauenhafter Schund der da läuft. Hauptsache schnell, bunt und laut.

AD(H)S ist vorprogrammiert.

Und Micky Maus als Computer-Animation ist wirklich grauenhaft. und strunzendumm sind die Geschichten auch noch, als wenn die Kinder zu blöd wären sich einen nachvollziehbaren Handlungsstrang anzuschauen.

Und das VHS-Cover dazu ist mindestens so schön wie der Titel!

ich war damals auch noch ein "Grundi". Trotzdem habe ich noch gute Erinnerungen an S.R.I. War halt was anderes als die ganzen (meist) schnarchigen TV-Krimis und Familienserien aus deutschen Landen. Das Publikum/die Senderverantwortlichen waren wohl noch nicht bereit dafür. Ok., die Ausstrahlung im Vorabendprogramm war für die damalige Zeit schon etwas gewagt . Kein Wunder, dass nach 13 Folgen die Absetzung erfolgte. Einschlafprobleme hatte ich nach Verköstigung von S.R.I. aber auch nicht.

1971- da war ich noch in der Grundschule- wusste gar nicht mehr genau, wie lang das her ist. Wenn ich mir heut überlege, das das damals abgesetzt worden ist? NaJa, ok., ist kein Kinderprogramm. Doch wenn ich mir die speziell für Kleinstkinder geschaffenen Programme anschau, die auf manchen Kindersendern 24 Stunden laufen, weiß nicht ob das soviel gesünder oder pädagogisch wertvoller ist. Es wundert mich nicht, dass AD(H)S so weit verbreitet ist.

Tja, manchmal wunderts mich echt. was Leute für hochtrabende Ergüße über die beklopptesten Filme schreiben!

Naja, was solls. jedem das seine.

Häää? Wo? Wann?

What the Fuck? Ich würde eher sagen: "Langweilig", "Nervtötende Darsteller", "unausgegorenes Drehbuch". Öder "Direct to VHS-Kram". Naja. Also 4/5 Punkten kann ich echt nicht nachvollziehen. Da muß ich wohl was anderes gesehen haben!

Trashig- prollig, unterhaltsam.

Clay verkörpert diese Rolle(n) natürlich glaubhaft, schon in seinen Auftritten als Standup- Comedian konnte er dies unter Beweis stellen.

Wenn ich ehrlich bin, gefallen mir seine früheren Werke besser (außerdem mag ich Elijah Wood ÜBERHAUPTS ned).

Jetzt sollte es mit dem editieren funktionieren, warst noch nicht freigeschaltet! Sorry, mein Fehler!

Aber die Verwendung von ausgedienten Stars gefällt mir, macht einen zusätzlichen Reiz aus. Lon Cheney kann in dem Zustand froh sein, noch in sonem Film mitwirken zu können. (siehe damals Lugosi bei Ed Wood) Und die Fans freuen sich doch (zumindest ich)

Frank Trebbin sagt: Ein lupenreiner, spaßig unterhaltsamer Trash-Streifen, der von seiner Wirkung im Zwerchfellbereich seinesgleichen sucht. Es fängt schon damit an, daß das Make-Up so horrend schlecht aussieht, daß man sich nicht mehr halten kann. Weiter geht es mit einer scheußlichen Musikuntermalung, die immer wieder in falschen Momenten Akzente setzt. Doch jetzt kommen wir zum Knüller des Ganzen: die absolut verschwendete Besetzung mit altgedienten Hollywood-Veteranen.

Bostwick spielte wesentlich später den Bürgermeister von "Chaos City"- ohne Stirnband natürlich.

War aber auch ohne "Holocaust" ein "tolles" Medley mit dem Best-of aller Klischees des Horrorfilms so far. Unzivilisierte, bösartige Wilde im Busch, ein raffgieriger verrückter Wissenschaftler. Diese gewieften Splatteritaliener wussten schon, wie sie das Zombiegenre für sich ausschlachten konnten.

Erinnere mich, damals ne Vorlesung geschwänzt zu haben, um mir die 10.00 uhr vormittags Vorstellung angucken zu können, was damals häufiger vorkam.

Aber, falls überhaupt, ne bissige Satire zum Thema wäre jetzt sicher interessanter als, wie üblich, das Thema erst zu bringen, wenn Gras über die Sache gewachsen ist.

Bei "Der große Diktator" von Chaplin hat`s auch funktioniert.

Wer wohl wirklich Micky Maus synchronisiert hat. es könnt ja theoretisch jeder gewesen sein.
