We started receiving the above-displayed photograph (of a woman and a man leading a horse and a large dog through a park-like area), without any accompanying explanation, in March 2007. A few weeks later, someone added text identifying the dog as “Hercules, the World’s Biggest Dog.”
This information is accurate (in the sense that an English mastiff named Hercules owned by a Massachusetts man was once recognized as the world’s heaviest dog), but it doesn’t have any connection to the dog shown in the image displayed above, which clearly does not match a newspaper photograph of the real Hercules (and his owner):
(We note that the term “biggest dog” is somewhat ambiguous and is used here to mean “heaviest dog” rather than “tallest dog.” Guinness currently assigns the latter title to Zeus, a Great Dane who measured 44 in. and passed away in 2014.)
An English mastiff named Kell, described as “weighing 21 stone (294 lbs.), taller than a Shetland pony, and more than six feet long,” was previously described as the “world’s heaviest dog,” but it’s unclear whether she was still alive at the time the “Hercules” photograph began circulating. (Different newspaper articles from 2001 referred to her as both living and dead, and we could find nothing but brief, indefinite mentions of her after early 2002. If she were still alive, why she ceded the “world’s heaviest dog” title to Hercules would be puzzling, because news accounts generally listed her as being slightly heavier than Hercules.)
Also, the dog pictured above looks to be a Neapolitan mastiff rather than an English mastiff. If so, the canine would appear to be either a digital manipulation or a freakishly large example of its breed, because adult Neapolitan mastiffs typically reach a height of 24-31 inches at the shoulder. (Contrast, for example, the above image with other photographs demonstrating the size of Neapolitan mastiffs relative to people. Adult Neapolitan mastiffs typically reach a height of 24-31 inches at the shoulder.)

Golden Hind
The Golden Hind is a creature in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. It is a golden creature that's half woman, half deer.
History Edit
Highly sought after for their solid gold hooves and horns, the Golden Hinds were hunted to near extinction by mortals. They had the ability to assume human form, but involuntarily reverted back into their true forms when touched by mortals. The touch of gods or demigods would not cause a Hind to revert.
The Golden Hinds were apparently immortal (but not invulnerable), had the ability to heal others, and had some form of empathic ability. They spent their lives in herds of close family (sisters) watching over the forest and its inhabitants. The blood of a Golden Hind was famously one of the few things that could reliably kill a god. Golden Hinds were one of the rarest of creatures on earth and sacred to the goddess Artemis.
Unfortunately, the gentle nature of the Hinds made them targets for hunters.
Fearing their blood, Zeus destroyed the remaining Hinds with a series of lightning bolts (HTLJ "The End of the Beginning"). Hercules encountered the last Golden Hind in her human form as Serena, whom Ares had secretly rescued from Zeus's genocide. Hercules survived what would usually be fatal blow with Hind's Blood. Hercules was very sick but eventually recovered and fell in love with Serena. Sadly, Serena was murdered at Strife's instigation on their wedding night. Hercules eventually found his way into the past, where he forced Ares to permanently turn Serena into a mortal. The Hinds were still rendered extinct, but Serena herself lived on.
A Dog’s Purpose Premiere Canceled in Wake of Disturbing Video [Updated]
Update (January 20, 2017, 7:30 A.M.): The Los Angeles premiere of A Dog’s Purpose has been canceled. Amblin Entertainment and Universal announced the news in a joint statement Thursday night: “Because Amblin’s review into the edited video released yesterday is still ongoing, distributor Universal Pictures has decided it is in the best interest of A DOG’S PURPOSE to cancel this weekend’s premiere and press junket. Amblin and Universal do not want anything to overshadow this film that celebrates the relationship between animals and humans.”
The statement also addressed the actions Amblin has taken since disturbing footage of a German Shepherd apparently being mistreated on set emerged—“Amblin has engaged with many associated with the production of the film, including safety personnel, trainers and stunt coordinators as part of their in-depth review”—and assured that the dog in question, Hercules, “was not harmed throughout the filmmaking.”

A Dog’s Purpose, a film meant to be a love letter to the special relationship between man and man’s best friend, has found itself in some hot water. On Wednesday, video surfaced on TMZ of a frightened German Shepherd apparently being forced to perform a stunt on set. Since then, PETA has called for a boycott of the film; Universal has launched an investigation; and the film’s producer, its director, and its voice-acting star, Josh Gad, have all spoken out.
In the video, the dog, whose name is Hercules, is seen struggling to escape the grip of his handler, rather than be lowered into a pool of swirling water—which TMZ reports was being churned by eight outboard motors. Someone off-camera chuckles and says, “He wants to get away; just throw him in.” The dog is lowered in multiple times, but each time, he squirms too much to be submerged fully. The video does not show the dog being forcibly thrown into the water, but instead cuts to an ostensibly later moment when the dog, already in the water, sinks beneath the surface as handlers yell and rush toward it.
In response to the video, PETA called for a boycott of the film Wednesday, and alleged that more animal abuse has been committed by the company that handled the dog in the video, as confirmed by Deadline:
PETA released a video expose of Hollywood animal supplier Birds & Animals Unlimited (BAU), which claimed to a PETA eyewitness they provided dogs used in the film A Dog’s Purpose, new footage shows a terrified dog who is forced into churning water on set. At one point, a dog who is in danger of drowning has to be rescued. PETA is calling on dog lovers to boycott the film in order to send the message that dogs and other animals should be treated humanely, not as movie props. PETA’s investigation at BAU revealed that animals are denied veterinary care, forced to sleep outdoors in the cold without bedding for warmth, made to live in filthy conditions, and more.
The film is a collaboration between Amblin Entertainment and Walden Media.*Deadline reports that Walden referred calls about the incident to Amblin, which released a statement of its own, saying that its production team “followed rigorous protocols to foster an ethical and safe environment for the animals.”
While we continue to review the circumstances shown in the edited footage, Amblin is confident that great care and concern was shown for the German Shepherd Hercules, as well as for all of the other dogs featured throughout the production of the film. There were several days of rehearsal of the water scenes to ensure Hercules was comfortable with all of the stunts. On the day of the shoot, Hercules did not want to perform the stunt portrayed on the tape so the Amblin production team did not proceed with filming that shot. Hercules is happy and healthy.
It’s worth noting that the way the video was cut makes it unclear whether the shots of the dog being lowered in and the shots of the dog becoming submerged were taken back-to-back. TMZ noted in its report that Universal, as well as Amblin, had seen the video, telling the outlet, “Fostering a safe environment and ensuring the ethical treatment of our animal actors was of the utmost importance to those involved in making this film and we will look into the circumstances surrounding this video.” Deadline notes that Universal did not return requests to comment on its story.
Still, several people involved with the film are not O.K. with what they’ve seen. Producer Gavin Polone, who also happens to be an animal-rights activist, told Deadline that he was “horrified” by the video. “People have to be held responsible for this,” Polone said. “It was someone’s job to watch out for this kind of thing. Why didn’t they?”
Polone was referring to American Humane, which issued a statement of its own saying it was “disturbed and concerned” by the footage and adding that the safety representative who was on-set at the time of the video has been put on administrative leave; a third party is conducting an investigation of the set as well.
The film’s director, Lasse Hallstrom, reacted to the video on Twitter, voicing his own outrage as a “lifelong animal lover.” (Note: his account is unverified, but appears to be authentic. Vanity Fair has reached out to Hallstrom's agent to confirm its authenticity.)
Gad reacted to the video on Twitter, as well, saying that although he cannot comment on what happened on set (he only leant his voice to the film, and does not appear in it in person), he is “shaken and sad to see any animal put in a situation against its will.”
Vanity Fair has reached out to Universal, as well as PETA, and will update this post accordingly.

Hunddagiset förbinder sig att vårda hunden väl, att ge den god tillsyn och kontakt och att rasta hunden regelbundet.
Hunden skall vara fullt frisk och fri från ohyra, skabb eller liknande. Skall vara vaccinerad mot valpsjuka, kennelhosta och parvo. Vaccinationsintyg skall uppvisas 1 gång per år. Dagiset har rätt att kräva vaccination även mot andra sjukdomar. Intyg skall av hundägaren visas då dagiset begär detta.
Heltid 1 hund 2 400 kr/månad
Deltid 1 hund 170 kr/dag
Vid fler än 1 hund erhåller hund nr 2, 20% rabatt ,hund nr 3, 30% osv förutsatt att hundarna kan vistas i samma box.
All betalning sker i förskott. Hercules HundDagis skickar faktura varje månad.
Avgiften reduceras ej om hunden inte kan vara på dagiset p.g.a. sjukdom, skada eller ohyra hos hunden.
Ej heller om ägaren väljer att hålla hunden hemma under lediga strödagar, semester eller egen sjukdom.
Likaså reduceras ej avgiften vid aftnar eller så kallade röda dagar i almanackan.
Dagisavgift som redan är erlagd kan ej tillgodoräknas vid ett senare tillfälle.
Om fasta tider saknas i detta avtal bör ett schema lämnas in som gäller minst en månad.

Om skador uppstår pga bristfälligheter i lokaler eller bristande tillsyn betalas detta av dagiset.
Vid behov anlitas närmaste veterinär i Kungälv.
Kunden överlämnar ansvaret till Hercules HundDagis att avgöra när veterinär bör kontaktas om vi inte når ägaren.
Kunden står för hundens veterinärkostnad.
Sjukdomar så som kennelhosta kan förekomma där många hundar vistas samtidigt. Hundar som lämnas på Hercules HundDagis skall vara vaccinerade (se allmänt). Vaccinationen är dock ingen garanti för att hunden klarar sig undan smitta. Hercules HundDagis blir inte ersättningsskyldiga om din hund drabbas av detta, inte heller om dagisverksamheten tvingas stänga i samband med detta pga sanering.
Hund med hosta eller andra symptom får ej vistas på dagiset.
Detta avtal gäller tillsvidare med ömsesidig uppsägningstid på en hel kalendermånad. (Juli månad får ej räknas som uppsägningsmånad). Båda avtalsparter är emellertid berättigade att säga upp avtalet med omedelbar verkan om den andra parten grovt åsidosätter vad som gäller i detta avtal.
Inackorderingsinnehavaren äger rätt att med omedelbar verkan säga upp avtal med hund som genom sitt beteende utgör fara för de andra hundarna eller personal. Eller om hunden har uppenbara svårigheter att anpassa sig i hundgruppen.

Hunddagiset förbinder sig att vårda hunden väl, att ge den god tillsyn och kontakt och att rasta hunden regelbundet.
Hunden skall vara fullt frisk och fri från ohyra, skabb eller liknande. Skall vara vaccinerad mot valpsjuka, kennelhosta och parvo. Vaccinationsintyg skall uppvisas 1 gång per år. Dagiset har rätt att kräva vaccination även mot andra sjukdomar. Intyg skall av hundägaren visas då dagiset begär detta.
ALL BETALNING SKER I FÖRSKOTT OCH SKALL VARA HERCULES HUNDDAGIS TILLHANDA DEN SISTA VARJE MÅNAD.
Om avgiften inte erläggs i tid har dagiset rätt att vägra ta emot hunden. Dagiset äger också rätt att vägra ta emot hunden om det finns anledning att misstänka att hunden är sjuk, skadad, ej vaccinerad eller bär smitta.
Avgiften reduceras ej om hunden inte kan vara på dagiset p.g.a. sjukdom, skada eller ohyra hos hunden.

Dagiset är öppet måndag-fredag 06.30-18.00.
Lördagar, söndagar, röda dagar och alla aftnar stängt, förutom valborgsmässoafton.
Dag före afton stänger dagiset klockan 16.00.
Inlämning 06.30-09.00. Hämtning 15.00-18.00. Ägaren måste ringa i god tid om hunden vid något tillfälle kommer att lämnas eller hämtas annan tid.
